Bio

Dr. Sullivan completed his dental training at the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1983. He then underwent oral and maxillofacial surgery training at the University of Oklahoma, completing the program in 1988. His international training experiences included the West of Scotland Plastic and Oral Surgery Unit in Glasgow Scotland, as well as the University of Melbourne and Royal Children’s Hospital as a fellow in the Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery unit in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. Sullivan was appointed Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Oklahoma in 1992 and has served in that position for the last 27 years. He has served on the examination committee for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has been President of the Oklahoma Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and served as a member of the AAOMS Committee of Residency Education and Training. He is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, The International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was the guest editor for the Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery : Techniques in Orthognathic Surgery edition. His practice is devoted to surgical correction of dentofacial deformities, and temporomandibular joint reconstruction and lectures nationally and internationally on these topics. He performs approximately 325 jaw surgery procedures and 75 TMJ surgeries per year and is one of the most experienced corrective jaw surgeons in the country. He also developed the FacesF1rst treatment planning protocol, which emphasizes facial esthetics when planning jaw surgery. His research interests include airway effects of rotational maxilla-mandibular movements and the use of CBCT’s to evaluate the effects of orthognathic surgery on the condyle airway.
