“The Oklahoman’s” Editorial Staff Likes Our Alternative Approach

In response to the OCPA (Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs) sponsored debate in which I participated last week, The Oklahoman, the largest newspaper in our state, published this opinion piece, one which nicely summarizes points made both by Avik Roy and me.  While there are those who think that health care is too important to trust to the free market, it is not difficult to make a compelling case that health care is too important to trust to the government, cost overruns and poor access to care two hallmarks of Medicaid.

Thanks again to OCPA for sponsoring this important public debate and now to the editorial staff at The Oklahoman for deliberately challenging the validity of expanding a failed government program.

G. Keith Smith, M.D.
